Custom Pickguard for 1976 Ibanez George Benson. The owner of this guitar, Charles Carlton (Charles Carlton Trio), plays with his thumb ala Benson and Wes and rests his fingers on the pickguard, thus causing the original plastic one to crack and wear out. The new pickguard had to be more stable and also support the floating bridge pickup at the correct position and heighth to balance with the neck attached front unit while following the exact lines of the old one. I crafted the new pickguard with 1/32" ebony backed with 2/32" plexiglass and 1/32" brass stock and bound it with multi-layer ivoroid/black binding to match the guitar's appointments. The new binding had a bright, minty look to it that I matched to the aged look of the guitar with a little amber toner. This pickguard doesn't flex like the original and the ebony ties in nicely with the ebony fingerboard. Oh yeah, I refretted it and installed a new wiring harness too. Mission accomplished!
